Inspired by the sound of UK garage, and learning to DJ and produce in his teens, DJ Q was Radio 1Xtra’s youngest presenter when he joined in 2004 – you can still hear him from 1am to 4am on a Wednesday morning. Helping pioneer the garage off-shoot bassline, he’s become the sound’s leading player, recording an Essential Mix and remixing underground hits like ‘Woo Riddim’. If you like his podcast, which takes in everyone from Mosca to Maya Jane Coles, check his recent album ‘DJ Q Enters the Unknown’ on Unknown to the Unknown or superb excursion into two-step, ‘Brandy and Coke’, out this month on Local Action.
