Interview with Fresh & Tidy | DJ Tony C & J-Fresh
Copydbwoy: First of all, thanks for the submission. It’s an honour for me to present you to my listeners. You guys doing outstanding work for the develompent of our beloved garage scene. Much respect for keeping your skills & experience in UKG. We appreciate. Artists like you is the reason why UK Garage is so strong these days!

Copydbwoy: What you guys have prepared for us today?

Fresh & Tidy: We have put together an hour of some of the freshest house & garage around from some of our favourite producers at the minute.

Copydbwoy: As I already said earlier, this mix is top material!

Copydbwoy: Please tell how long you DJ?

Tony C: I’ve been DJing since the mid 90s. I started out playing drum and bass and hardcore but really got into house & garage in the mid to late 90s when I heard Todd Edwards first Locked on album… Tuff Jam were also big big influences for me.

J-Fresh: I’ve been DJing for about 14 years, always into the House & Garage scene, listening to Huckleberry Finn on Girls FM – he was a big name on the station at the time and one of my main influences.

Copydbwoy: Your names are popping up on timeline and searches quite often recently. Could you tell about your nicknames?

Tony C: The Tidy nickname was actually given to me by Emma Champion when I was on Déjà vu. My show was after hers and she’d always laugh when I turned up with all my CDs and headphones and everything proper organized….it’s stuck as people see my OCD!

J-Fresh: The ‘Fresh’ nickname come about just because of the type of music I play – Fresh!

Copydbwoy: What are your goals and plans for nearest future?

J-Fresh: We’ve just started to put some stuff together as we’ve decided it’s the direction we need to go in. I used to produce years ago but haven’t done anything for a while. I’ve just started to use Logic Pro X and hoping to get some bits out there this year

Tony C: We recently started our new show on LiveFM every Tuesday at 6-8pm – we wanna carry on pushing this and the new artists and new music we feature each week

J-Fresh: We’re involved in a night called Highly Swung which is dedicated to pushing new music – there’s 8 of us – Emma Champion, Marvel, Too Bad DJs, Selector Squidge and Impact – we’ve had two successful nights and are looking to push on from this

Copydbwoy: Got any tips or message for younger artists we see today?

J-Fresh: Too many people open up the software and think they’re going to make tracks in 2 minutes that people are gonna love. You’ve got start playing music first – play keyboards and learn some music theory – some things I hear ain’t even in key! I’ve only just started using Logic Pro X and it is a lot easier than when I used to produce back in the day but the quality of the music has still gotta be there

Copydbwoy: Let’s talk in more details about your influences.

J-Fresh: People we’ve been supporting from day one – Stevie B, Tuff Culture, Light Work, White Label….all doing big things. Then there’s the labels – Ice Cream, Snazzy Trax and the likes of Todd Edwards, MJ Cole, Wookie still producing quality garage

Tony C: Also, people like Jepadee, DJD, Gilbino, Preditah and the new labels like Bumpa Funk & Fruits of Flava…and loads more that I’m sure we’ve forgotten!

Copydbwoy: Big list of names everyone should know today!

Fresh & Tidy: We must also give a special mention to Save Link As, for the intro on this mix! He’s another one of our favourite producers right now!

Copydbwoy: Shouts to Save Link As!

Copydbwoy: Thanks for interview and selection you guys put together for us. This gonna be huge one for episode number 40. Loving it!
